today in golden gate park, the trees are so tall and surrounding that you can't tell which way is up. like walking around in the Castro hills at night, gravity slopes and we're rolling more than walking and all of a sudden, the earth was in orbit around the moon.

last night i went to an open mic. i'm leaving town in less than a week. it's been a manic rush to see everyone, and suddenly i have a night to myself. no ex-girlfriend with a bunch of maybes in her mouth, no plans that change and twist till they're with an entirely new set of people, and especially no buffy. i wanted to see it but mikhael worked late and i don't feel like showing up on somebody's doorstep. so instead i'm in the castro again, en route to an open mic that pays in alcohol, and all i really want is bug juice from camp, the kind with a million ice cubes in it that never got cold, only more watered down.

and the castro feels like a giant pinball game.

if gravity stopped, do you think we'd all fly? or would everyone float away in different directions and get farther aprat till you never ever saw another person? and would airplane tickets suddenly get a lot cheaper?
