josey: five years ago, i went on vacation to poland and looked at concentration camps. it was 38 of us who'd never met each other before, put into a room and told we would share experiences that we didn't even know how to have. the woman in charge we all thought to be excessive, maniacal, in the little ways. although she was so nice. on the corner of Swann St. last shabbos she hadn't age a day. even though she introduced me to some of my closest friends ever. most of whom are just footnotes, now.

kick-out: 17 days, and the countdown continues. last night while i was asleep, one by one, my row of concert tickets fell down along my arm. i had my shirt off and it lay out vertically allong the curvature of my arm. in the morning it was a list of my weekends out over the past year. sleater-kinney, built to spill, maginot line and sleater-kinney again. it was impressively long. the last one rested in my turned-up palm, iva bittova. she played in prague my roommate's last night there. gypsy yodelling and violin squeals.

i'm still in © with you: you know. anyone who's around. the girl i saw on the metro last night and the girl who yelled at me for crossing on the yellow from her SUV.
i want to tell you, i have an M. Doughty concert bootleg on tape where there's a girl laugh, someone whose voice i've never heard before, and i will have a crush on her forever.

party in the boondocks: yesterday we bundled into the car and tried to make sense of the Washington Beltway. there are about 8 different intercrossing highways that run perpindicular to each other. they are all called the beltway. baltimore is really only about 30 miles away from DC. it's like a secret bonus track at the end of washington. nobody ever goes there and it seems vaguely familiar, like the same people played the baltimore song that played all the songs of washington, but there are clearly different things. for one thing they have suburbs. it was snowy there. there was no snow in washington. all these swing sets and tree stumps that lined the streets, everyone walking fast along the sidewalks. people don't stay outside long in this weather. it was warm but the snow was melting.

and inside was the affair. sharon and michael looking oddly adultlike. michael shook hands and bumped bellies with all the boys. he was wearing a suit. i usually see him in a suit, but today he was all regal. next to his mother, o gosh, it was almost like it was his bar mitzvah. while sharon was all in black. not like a funeral but like a very hip restaurant. handling her culture-shocked relatives, lost in the sea of black hats, while we all tried to tell jokes with a common punchline and navigate a conversation.

o, it was so nice. i was only there for an hour but i could have lived there.
